Вишково (Vyškovo) (hungarian name: Visk; previous ukrainian spelling: Вишкове/Vyškove)
is situated on the left bank of the river Tisa close to the border to Romania, in the Hust district of the Transcarpathia province of western Ukraine.
For centuries the town's history was connected with that of the Kingdom of Hungary. The place was founded around 1200 as a centre for mining and forestry in the Carpathian mountains of the Máramaros district. In 1270 Visk obtained the status of a Hungarian Crown town. After World War I and the Treaty of Paris/Trianon (1921), the town became part of the Czechoslovakia (Carpatho-Russia). In 1939 the Carpatho-Ukraine was occupied by Hungary, and after World War II it became part of the USSR (Ukrainian SSR). Today, the region is part of the Transcarpathia region of Ukraine.
