Hirschsprung is situated at an elevation of 650 m in a high valley about 3 km from Altenberg in Saxony, in the area forming the headwaters of the river Wilde Weißeritz. The place was first mentioned in a docment of 1464. Around the turn of the 19th to the 20th century, Hirschsprung became a popular area for summer and winter tourism. Since 1994, Hirschsprung is part of the municipality of Altenberg.
The Ladenmühle is located at the foot of the Ladenberg mountain. A new hotel was built at the site of the old mill in 1991.
