Sachsenberg-Georgenthal

2670 Sachsenberg-Georgenthal 4205 Sachsenberg-Georgenthal Sachsenberg-Georgenthal is one of the localities of the munipality of Klingenthal in southwestern Saxony. It is situated at the foot of the Aschberg mountain (Czech: Kamenáč), the summit (936 m) of which is already located in the neighbouring Czech Republic.

Georgenthal was founded in the 17th century by Protestant exiles who had come to Saxony. The village was named for Elector Johann Georg I (1585–1656; r.1611–1656). Georgenthal had been part of the parish of Klingenthal until 1887 when an own parish established for Georgenthal. The locality Sachsenberg was formed in 1929 by merging Untersachsenberg and Obersachsenberg. The municipalities of Sachsenberg and Georgenthal were merged in 1934 to become the new municipality of Sachsenberg-Georgenthal, which itself was merged into the municipality of Klingenthal in 1950. Like Klingenthal, Sachsenberg and Georgenthal had been well-known for the manufacturing of musical instruments.
