3028 Peuerbach Peuerbach is situated at an elevation of 390 m in the Hausruckviertel region, district Grieskirchen, of Austria's state of Upper Austria. As of 2016, the municipality has a population of about 2,200.

Peuerbach is one of the oldest settlements in the Hausruckviertel region. The oldest written document mentioning the place dates from 1120. In 1280, Peuerbach was first mentioned as a market town. During the Pesants' Wars (1625/1626), the town was destroyed almost completely by a large fire in 1626. Two documents of 1366 and 1386, respectively, mentioned Peuerbach already as being a town, although no document confirming such privileges could be found in archives. The official status of a town was only granted in the 20th century, in 1994.

The parish church Sankt Martin [centre] was first mentioned in 1211. The original church, dedicated to St. Martin of Tours, was built in Gothic style. During the large fire that destroyed most of the town in 1626, the church burnt out. The church was then rebuilt in Baroque style in the mid-17th century. The interior decorations mostly date from the mid-18th century.

Perhaps the best-known historical person born here was Georg of Peuerbach (1423–1461), astronomer, mathematician and instrument maker, best known for his streamlined presentation of Ptolemaic Astronomy in the 'Theoricae Novae Planetarum'. In 1454 Peuerbach was appointed court astrologer to King Ladislaus of Bohemia and Hungary (Ladislaus Postumus), and later of Emperor Friedrich III. Peuerbach maintained a position at the university of Vienna. As a mathematician, he computed sine tables based on techniques developed by Arabian mathematicians. One of his probably most influential inventions as an instrument maker was the folding sundial, which was widely used until the 18th century.
