The constitution of 1831 then laid the foundation for todays district. In a plebiscite of 2016, the merger of the commune of Hirzel with that of Horgen was approved; the merger became effective in 2018.

Bocken manor [left] goes back to a farmhouse of 1644. The Baroque manor house was created in 1681–1688. The local area was the main venue of the Bocken War of 1804, a civil war between the insurgent rural population and the Swiss federal troops led by the city of Zurich. Already since 1771 the manor was used as a spa facility. In 1805 it was enlarged by the addition of a restaurant in Classicist style; a further wing was added in 1913. Since 1994 it is used as a meeting venue. The historic complex was placed under monument protection.
