3771 Wendlingen am Neckar Wendlingen am Neckar is situated at an elevation of 280 m on the right bank of the river Neckar in the district Esslingen, about 20 km southeast of Stuttgart. The municipality encompasses the formerly independent communities of Wendlingen, Unterbohingen and Bodelshofen, and has a total population of about 16,300 (2018).

Wendlingen was first mentioned in a written document dating from 1132, Bohingen was first mentioned in 1100 and 1130, Bodelshofen in 1268. In 1230 Wendlingn obtained the status of a town for the first time. In 1545 it was sold off to the dukes of Württemberg. In the early 19th century the former town fortifications were pulled down and only a few remnants have remained. In the course of the administrative reform of Württemberg in 1805, Wendlingen lost its status as a town and was allocated to the district Esslingen. Bodelshofen was merged with Wendlingen in 1929/1934. In 1940, when Unterbohingen also was merged with Wendlingen, the municipality regained the status of a town and was officially renamed Wendlingen am Neckar.

The church of Sankt Eusebius [left, no. 3771: background right] was built in 1448, the tower was added in 1510. At least since 1548, when Wendlingen became part of Württemberg, the church is Protestant. Parts of the church were rebuilt in 1710. The oldest of the churche's five bells was cast in 1501. During World War II it was removed to be melted down but luckily escaped this fate. The bell was rediscovered in Hamburg in 1948 and returned to Wendlingen. The other four bells were added in 1953.
