Solec Kujawski is situated on the left bank of the river Wisła (English: Vistula, German: Weichsel) 20 km from
Bydgoszcz (Bromberg) and 35 km from Toruń (Thorn),
in the heart of the Bydgoska primeval forest which is famous for its
mineral springs, fauna and flora, and its unique dunes. The place was first mentioned in a document dating from 1244. It was a centre for trading in
wood, cereals and salt in the 13th century and obtained the status of a town in 1325.
The
parish church of the Most Holy Heart of Jesus (kosciół parafii pw. Najświętszego Serca Pana Jezusa)
[bottom left] was built in 18451847 and was enlarged in 1894. Originally it was a Protestant church but became
