The
Macocha abyss (138 m deep) is the largest (174 m long and 76 m wide) of its kind in Central Europe and one of the most popular sites in the Moravský kras (Moravian karst)
region in South Moravia. The abyss was formed when the ceiling of a former cave collapsed. The bottom of the Macocha abyss is accessible through the
Punkva caves. The underground Punkva river is large enough for boats.
