Atzenbrugg is situated at an elevation of 186 m in the Perschling valley where the river flows into the Tullnerfeld plain,
about 13 km southwest of the district town Tulln and about 23 km northeast of Sankt Pölten,
the capital of Austria's state of Lower Austria. The municipality has a population of about 3,500 (2026).
It is believed that the place was named after a member of the Kuenringer dynasty named Azzo, who in the 12th century had a
bridge built in this place to cross the Perschling river. Atzenbrugg castle came in possession of the monastery of Klosterneuburg
in 1379.
The famous Austrian composer Franz Schubert lived and composed at Atzenbrugg Castle during several summer stays around 1820, which
is why the 'Schubertiade' festivals are held there today (famous classical music artists play music by Schubert and other musicians).
