zamek Grodno

de: Kynsburg

1092 zamek Grodno Grodno castle (German: Kynsburg) [left] is situated at an elevation of 450 m near Zagórze Śląskie (Kynau) in the Góry Wałbrzyskie (Waldenburger Bergland) region of Lower Silesia east of the county seat, Wałbrzych (Waldenburg).

The castle originated as one of the many castles built between the 12th and 14th century as strongholds to protect the border to Bohemia. When King Karl IV of Bohemia (Emperor in 1355) married Anna of Schweidnitz (Świdnica) (Silesia) in 1353 and the former duchy of Świdnica-Jawor (Schweidnitz-Jauer) had become part of Bohemia in 1392, the castle lost its strategic importance and began to fall into dereliction. Renovations of the castle began in the 19th century.
