Hamr na Jezeře is situated at an elevation of 320 m on the Ploučnicí river about halfway between Liberec and Česká Lípa in northern Bohemia. The village has a population of about 430 (2021).
The place was first mentioned in 1322 as a town with an iron mill processing iron or from the nearby mines of Děvín and Hamerská Špičáku.
During the 19th century, Hamr was popular for its recreation facilities and its lake (Hamerské jezero).
The mining of uranium, which has been established in the area in the late 20th century, is being discontinued at present.
