Dębowiec

cs: Dubovec de: Eichhäusel

Dębowiec is situated at an elevation of 305– 350 m at the western slope of the Długota (457 ) in the very south of Opole county. The village has a population of 40 and is part of the urban-rural commune (gmina miejsko-wiejska) of Prudnik.

The date of the foundation of the village is unknown. It is sometimes assumed that Dębowiec might be identical to 'Nowy Chocim', founded in the 13th century. The oldest document mentioning the village, however, dates from 1642. In the 19th and early 20th century, Dębowiec (in German: Eichhäusel) was a popular starting point for walking excursions into the Opole Mountains. Dębowiec also includes the hamlet Wieszczyna (Neudeck).

2974 Prudnik: Dębowiec Glass no. 2974 [left] is a souvenir from Prudnik. The bottom right picture on the glass shows a view of the Waldhaus in Eichhäusel ('Forest Inn' in Dębowiec).
