mk: Хоим bg, ru: Хойм

3850 Hoym Hoym is situated at an elevation of 123 m in the northern foothills of the Harz mmountains, about 12 km west of Aschersleben. Since 2009 it is a city district (Stadt Hoym/Anhalt) of the municipality Seeland.

Bernburg in 1718 was partitioned into Anhalt-Bernburg and Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym, it became the residence town of the small, non-sovreign principality. When the fifth prince of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym died without male heir in 1812, Hoym fell back to Anhalt-Bernburg. When Anhalt-Bernburg became extinct in 1863 it reverted to the duchy of Anhalt-Dessau, since then simply called duchy of Anhalt. In 2009, Hoym and the neighbouring communities of Friedrichsaue, Frose, Nachterstedt and Schadeleben were merged into the new municipality Seeland. In 2015 the city borrough of Hoym was renamed Stadt Hoym, and in 2016 to Stadt Hoym/Anhalt.

Hoym castle goes back to a former moated castle that presumably had been founded in 1038. The first owners, the lords of Hoym, were firrst mentioned in 1191. Since 1603 the castle had been in possession of Anhalt-Bernburg. The old castle was demolished in 1714. The new castle, finished in 1721, became the residence of the new, non-sovereign, principality of Anhalt-Bernburg-Schaumburg-Hoym. When the principality fll back to the duchy of Anhalt-Bernburg in 1812, the castle remained in use by the dukes. However, in 1878 it became home of the 'Landessiechenanstalt', a hospice institution of the duchy of Anhalt. Since 1978 it is home of a facility of disabled persons of Germany's state of Sachsen-Anhalt.
