3990 Lübz Lübz is situated at an elevation of 51 m on the river Elde in the east of the district Ludwigslust-Parchim, about 12 km northeast of Parchim and about 40 km northeast of Ludwigslust. The municipality has a population of about 6,200 (2020).

Lubicz was first mentioned in a written document dating from 1224. After the First Partition of Mecklenburg in 1234, it became part of the principality of Parchim-Reichenberg. In 1308 it was occupied by the margraves of Brandenburg who next to Lübz founded Eldenburg castle. In 1328 the town passed back to Mecklenburg and in 1352 became part of the duchy Mecklenburg-Stargard, which existed until 1471 when Mecklenburg-Stargard and Mecklenburg-Schwerin were reunited. Lübz obtained the privileges of a town in or after 1456. In 1634 it became a dowager seat for the ducal family. After the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648) the castle was fell into dereliction and most parts were torn down in 1691. In 1836 the river Elde was expanded to become a shipping route (Müritz–Elde waterway). From 1952 until 1994 Lübz was the administrative seat of the district of the same name, which in 1994 was merged into the district Parchim; since 2011 it is part of the district Ludwigslust-Parchim.
