Puchenstuben is situated at an elevation of 868 m in the Ötscher mountain range. The area west of Puchenstuben is protected as a nature reserve (Ötscher-Tormäuer, 90 km²) since 1970.

The small parish church Sankt Anna [centre] was built 1727–1728 in Baroque style. It has remained almost unchanged until today.
