Hamr na Jezeře, located about halfway between Liberec and Česká Lípa in North Bohemia,
originated in the 16th century in connection with iron ore mining.
During the 19th century, Hamr was popular for its recreation facilities and its lake (Hamerské jezero).
The mining of uranium, which has been established in the area in the late 20th century, is being discontinued at present.
