ru: Бад-Липшпринге

2315 Bad Lippspringe The spa town Bad Lippspringe is situated at an elevation of 485 m in the western slopes of the Teutoburger Wald region in the Paderborn district of eastern Westfalia. The source of the river Lippe are located within the municipality, which also is the origin of the name Lippspringe. Four mineral springs, which are used for therapeutic purposes, Martinus-Quelle, Alte Arminiusquelle, Neue Arminiusquelle and Liborius-Quelle, are also located within the town. Bad Lippspringe has a population of about 15,400 (2006).

Lippiogyspringiae was first mentioned in a document of AD 740, the name Lippspringe is documented as early as 1235. In 1312 the bishops of Paderborn built as castle at this place and a settlement began to develop near it. In the 14th century, the bishops established their position of sovereign rulers of their territories within the Holy Roman Empire. In 1445 the bishops granted Lippspringe the privileges of a town. After the secularisation of 1802/1803, the territory was occupied by Prussia. During the Napoleonic times it belonged to the Kingdom of Westphalia. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, it finally became part of Prussia (province Westfalia). The curative properties of the Arminius spring, previously only considered to be secondary source of the river Lippe, were discovered in 1832. Together with all Prussian towns that had less than 2,500 inhabitants at the time, Lippspringe lost its status as a town in 1843, but regained this status in 1921. The predicate 'Bad' (spa) was added to the town's name in 1913.

Glass no. 2315 [left] shows a view of the source of the river Lippe and the Trinkhalle (pump room). The pond formed by the river source is also called "Odin's Eye" because, according to an old legend, the supreme Germanic god Odin once pulled out one of his eyes and threw it into the dry area which then became fertile land.
