Božejov is situated at an elevation of 602 m about 9 km southwest of the district town Pelhřimov and about 28 km west of Jihlava in the Vysočina region of the Czech Republic. As of 1 January 2019 the municipality had a population of 633.

Boženov originated in the early 13th century. The oldest written document mentioning the village dates from 1352. Božejov obtained the status of a městys (market town) in 2006.

The church of St. George [left, no. 3836: background right] dates from the Gothic period and was remodeled in Baroque style in the 17th century.
