4137 Ebersbach / Sa. Ebersbach / Sa. (Ebersbach in Saxony) is situated at an elevation of 350 m about 20 km northwest of Zittau and 23 km southeast of Bautzen in Germansy's state of Saxony. Ebersbach has a population of about 8,000 (2010) and since 2011 is part of the municipality Ebersbach-Neugersdorf.

Ebersbach was probably founded in the 13th century. The first known mention in a written document dates from 1306. In 1429, during the Hussite wars, the village was burnt down, and for decades was refered to as Wüstenebersbach ('abandoned Ebersbach'). It was only in the 16th century that the village was rebuilt. Towards the end of the 16th century, weaving became an important factor for its development. Severely affected by the Thirty Years' War (1618–1648), the village again becan to grow after 1650 when Protestants exiled from Bohemia settled here. Due to the linen industry, Ebersbach became the third most important industrial location in the Zittau area. In 1839, Ebersbach was split into two communities, Alt-Ebersbach and Mudgutgemeinde (later named Neu-Ebersbach). In 1856, Ebersbach became the seat of a district court. Since 1873, the town has had a railway connection to Dresden, Zittau, Löbau, Reichenberg (Liberec) and Prague. Alt-Ebersbach and Neu-Ebersbach were re-united in 1877. In 1926 Ebersbach obtained the privileges as a town. Already at that time a merger with neighbouring Neugersdorf was planned but was not carried out. The merger with Neugersdorf finally took place in 2011.

The Protestant church of Ebersbach [background centre] was built as a hall church with a western tower in 1682. The eastern, elliptical, hall of the church was added in 1728–1733. The upper part of the western tower were added in 1901. The turret above the eastern part of the church had been removed in 1872, but was restored in 1933.
