Bad Soden am Taunus

ru: Бад-Зоден (Таунус)

1882 Bad Soden am Taunus The spa town Bad Soden am Taunus is situated at an altitude of 147 m on the southern slopes of the Taunus mountains 15 km northwest of Frankfurt am Main and 20 km northeast of Wiesbaden.

Soden was first mentioned in a document of 1190/91. Until 1803 Soden had the status of a free Imperial Village so that it was independent of any sovereign except the emperor himself. The mineral springs were first mentioned in 1437, and in 1605 the first saline was set up for the production of salt. The first spa activities began in 1701, the first spa hotel (Kurhaus) was built in 1722. In 1806 Soden became of the Duchy of Nassau. The railway from Soden to Höchst near (today in) Frankfurt was opened in 1847 and soon Soden became an internationally renowned spa. In 1922 the predicate 'Bad' ('spa') was added to the name Soden and in 1947 Bad Soden obtained the status of a town. From the 1960's onwards Bad Soden also became a popular residential place of the Frankfurt metropolitan area. In 1977 the neighboring communities of Altenhain and Neuenhain were incorporated into the municipality of Bad Soden.

The Kurhaus [left] was built in 1849.
